The third generation Lancer Evolution IX MR was the final model of the CT9A series, following the Lancer Evolution VII that was introduced in 2001. The Evolution IX MR, released in 2006, was also the last model to feature the famous 4G63 engine that had been installed for many years. "MR" is the name of a high-performance model inherited from the classic Galant GTO, and was adopted by the Lancer Evolution starting with the Evolution VIII MR in 2004. The Evolution IX MR features a more refined turbocharger and increased capacity Active Yaw Control (AYC), among other improvements in terms of feel, making it a car that can be considered the culmination of all previous Lancer Evolution models.
